AI in the network: a new era for Mist and a big step for HPE

Gusztáv Krékity
Mist AI and HPE unite to shape the future of networking with automation, AI-driven insights, and robust security. This strategic alliance marks a new era of intelligent, adaptive, and future-ready IT infrastructure.

In recent years, advances in network technology have increasingly shifted toward automation, data-driven operations, and artificial intelligence. Juniper Mist AI has already played a pioneering role in this process, but the latest developments and the strategic acquisition of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) have opened a new chapter in the story. This change is not just a technological innovation, but a step that will transform the entire industry—where AI is not a supporting actor, but the leading role.

Mist AI: the invisible system administrator

The new features of the Marvis AI assistant, Marvis Minis, function as virtually independent, cloud-based "network interns" who continuously monitor and fine-tune the system in the background. All this is complemented by the latest security certifications (ISO/IEC 27017, 27018, IRAP, PCI DSS 4.0), which not only ensure compliance but also reliability for corporate customers.

The numbers speak for themselves: partners using Mist AI experience up to 90% fewer tickets, while operating costs are reduced by an average of 85%. This is no longer just a "smart" network—it's a self-regulating, learning ecosystem.

The HPE acquisition: a strategic alliance powered by AI

In the summer of 2025, HPE completed its $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks. The decision was not based solely on market expansion, but on a conscious strategy: to create one of the world's most comprehensive, cloud-native, and AI-centric networking portfolios. With the merger of the two companies, HPE's networking business has effectively doubled in size, clearly positioning itself alongside Cisco and other global giants in the competition.

The acquisition also had legal and geopolitical implications: the US Department of Justice only granted approval under certain conditions, including the licensing of Mist AI Ops' source code and the sale of certain business lines. At the same time, the White House also supported the deal, seeing it as a strategic counterweight to Chinese manufacturers, especially Huawei.

In the new organizational structure, Rami Rahim, former CEO of Juniper, will lead HPE Networking, which will continue to operate under two brands: HPE Aruba Networking and HPE Juniper Networking. The goal is clear: to provide integrated, AI-based networking and cybersecurity solutions that will define the infrastructure of the future.

A network where AI is the backbone

The merger of Mist AI and HPE represents not only products and services, but also a change in approach to network operation. The network of the future will not be static, but rather a constantly adapting, forward-thinking system capable of making independent decisions. AI is not just a tool, but a fundamental building block of network operation—whether it's fault detection, performance optimization, or even security threat prevention.

As digital twins, Marvis, and automated management functions become increasingly integrated into everyday operations, the network will no longer be a "back-end infrastructure" but one of the most important drivers of corporate innovation. The joint journey of HPE and Juniper is therefore not only a technological milestone, but also an industry milestone—the gateway to an AI-centric network world.
